MOTOMURA"The control backbone! Steering Assy!"

Hello to all 1,200,000 Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune series fans all over the world!

How are you?

I'm Motomura and I've been working hard every day in order to reward the enthusiasm of Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune fans!

This time around, I'm going to talk about the secrets of the “racing cabinet” used for the Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune series.

This is the second time that I have been talking about the racing cabinet. However, I will be talking about the "Steering Assy" this time!

(Assy: a gathering of various apparatuses and components that are assembled together)

- Secrets of the Racing Cabinet (Steering Assy)

I think there are people out there who are wondering, “What is a steering wheel?” but in Japan we generally refer to the helm of a car as the “handle.”
In a common car, the steering wheel is connected to the tires, but in Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune it’s connected to an unexpected object.

When the Steering Assy is removed…

If you dismantle this unit, this is what it looks like.

The steering wheel that everyone uses is connected to an enormous “steering motor.”
The steering motor has the ability to reproduce realistic reactions for any shocks, gaps in the road surface, and other driving noise that the player experiences in the game.

This motor’s power is extremely strong. It's also dangerous when rotating at high speeds so various safety devices are installed. It also uses very sensitive power control.

These are the electronic parts used for control.

This is the first time this has been revealed to the public! The electrical parts in the upper left corner make up the steering control components [STR2].

(In this photo, the reverse interior of the Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune cabinet was photographed. Towards the bottom of the photo, you can see the reverse side of the accelerator and brake pedal.)

These electrical parts enable the controlled steering to create a realistic handling sensation for players to experience.

What do you think?

You may not pay much attention to the cabinet for the Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune series, but the combined knowledge of many different specialists is reflected in its design. This design enables players to enjoy a realistic experience when racing at a speed of 300 km/h.

Please keep this in mind and treat the cabinet carefully when playing the game.

That’s all for now. Next time around, I plan to talk about other secrets of the cabinet that I didn’t get to mention this time (i.e. the shift lever and the pedals). See you next time and take care!
