takenakaPower? Handling?

Good evening, folks. It’s Takenaka, the programmer.

My work which had run into difficulty due to various circumstances has recently quieted down a little bit. So, I tried Time Attack in Nagoya Speed Ring with my full tuned card.
The time achieved, having played with all my power, resulted in me being several hundred places from the top of the Time Attack Ranking; it would’ve been faster to count my rank order from the bottom. Bummage.
…As usual, I do nothing but take off my hat to everyone’s skills.

Anyhow, in my company, there’s a person who “just started to play the Wangan Maxi series a little while ago,” and I had an opportunity to have a chat with that person.
He told me that he’d been going on Story Mode, and he added, “I lose many times against my rivals because I quite frequently hit a yellow car.” (I assume that’s an official car.)
So, I advised him, “if you change your setting higher in Handling gauge, it’ll be easier to drive and dodge. In that setting, the top speed will drop, but the number of mistakes will also drop. So, it might be easier to win.”

In Episode 20 or after in Story Mode, you can move the tuning gauges for “Power” or for “Handling” as you like to have your own setting.
(I know many players are already familiar with this.)

If you allocate more to “Power,” your car’s acceleration and top speed will be increased as a trade-off for its cornering performance, so it won’t be as easy to drive.
If you allocate more to “Handling,” your car’s cornering performance will be improved as a trade-off for its acceleration and top speed, so it’ll be easier to drive.

When I watch players going on Story Mode at an arcade, it seems that many of them set up their tuning of Power and Handling evenly or by allocating more to Handling.
I know, it’s human nature to seek the top speed by allocating more to Power!
Adversely, Handling seems to be rather somber compared with Power.
But, as I mentioned earlier, there are also many cases when it would be easier to win with the increased Handling gauge to reduce mistakes.

If there are some players who feel that completing a game is difficult, how about trying out moving 1 or 2 of the tuning gauge to Handling?
They might be able to win that way, contrary to their expectations♪
