There is no course specified for VS player mode. Please select a starting point from 6 driving areas (C1, New circular, Wangan line, Yokohane line, Hanshin Expressway loop line and Hakone). Once the race begins, the panel to select branching direction appears just before the branching point in the course. HP handicap is a system to actualize a more exciting battle by supporting players who got a late start. The amount of HP handicap is decided by the number of tuning gauges. If you want to play seriously without HP handicap, all members must press the brake pedal at that screen (the indicator flashes blue). Then you can play a "serious battle" without HP handicap.

You can get star marks by winning the race. How many stars you are given depends on the battle record. This star is called an "Outrun star". More outrun stars means you have won more races.

The key to win in VS player mode in Wangan Maxi 3 is choice in the branching point. Select the direction that is good for your car settings when you are driving at the top, then there may be more possibilities to win. However, you cannot select a direction at the branching point if you are not at the top. So, it is important to think twice about where to rise to the top.
